“Great Old” spoils the party for the leaders of the Brugge club

In football, “Antwerp” held a draw on their home stadium “Bosuil” when Brugge’s first dropped points in four games this season.

Royal Antwerp FC, the country’s oldest football club, are in their second season in the top flight after promoting last summer. While the second season is mostly a difficult one, Antwerp are doing well so far. Coach Laszlo Bölöni thought out a strong defensive plan which makes the well-organised team difficult to manoeuvre for their opponents.

In a game that saw many fouls, Golden Shoe Ruud Vormer put Club Brugge ahead on 66 minutes (photo below), but Antwerp midfielder Faris Haroun made the most of a mistake by Bruges goalkeeper Karlo Letica to equalise 6 minutes from time: 1-1 (photo above).

“Club Brugge have a chance to regain the lead next week”

Anderlecht are the only team left with the maximum of 12 points after four games. Club Brugge have 10 points, while Standard, Cercle Brugge and Antwerp have 8. Next weekend, Anderlecht travel to Club Brugge.

Revelations Cercle Brugge downed Zulte Waregem 3-1 yesterday, while Standard enjoyed a comfortable 0-3 win at Lokeren, who are in dire straits. Tonight, KRC Genk take on Charleroi, while AA Gent travel to Eupen. AA Gent and RC Genk had European duties last Thursday: both won their game and advanced in the Europa League. If Genk win tonight, they will come alongside Club Brugge with 10 points.
