Republicans are making it pretty difficult for Democrats in the House in the two years leading up to the next presidential election.
During the US midterm elections (midterms), all 435 seats of the House of Representatives (the US House of Representatives) were lost. The House was controlled by the Democrats before the election, but now the Republicans gained the necessary 218 seats for a majority.
The next few days should show how big the difference in the House will be exactly. In any case, it is clear that this is a narrow majority. The Democrats have 208 seats and nine more have yet to be divided.
Biden congratulated House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on his victory. Biden hopes Republicans will work together to”achieve results for hard-working families.” He continued: “The American people want us to get something done. I’m willing to work with anyone, Republican or Democrat, to do that for them.”
McCarthy responded on Twitter to his party’s victory. “Republicans have officially ‘flipped’ the House. Americans are ready to take a new path and the Republicans in the House are ready to make it happen.”
