Ghent will host the largest skate Park in Belgium

The city of Ghent is planning to start this year the construction of the largest skate Park in Belgium – and one of the largest in Europe.

The park will be built on 4,000 square metres at the Blaarmeersen recreational centre and, according to Ghent’s alderman for sport, Resul Tapmaz, it “will be completed by Summer 2019”.

On Monday, the city presented the plans for the park, drawn up over the past year with the help of local skaters whose opinions were sought through different channels. The project bears the signatures of Constructo Skatepark Architecture from Marseilles and B-ILD from Brussels.

Not only skaters, but also lovers of the various types of rollers and BMX disciplines will also be able to use the park, which will be organized in various zones.

A “more accessible” area will be set aside for children while there will also be a section for joggers and, later on, an indoor skating rink.

The project represents an investment of about 1.6 million euros.
