Mertens and Goffin leave

It has been a bad 24 hours for our tennis players at the French Open in Paris. On Sunday evening David Goffin (ATP-9) lost his final 16 match against the Italian Marco Cecchinato (ATP-72). Suffering with a painful elbow, David Goffin lost in 4 sets 5-7, 6-4; 0-6, 3-6.

On Monday morning Elise Mertens (WTA-16) stood little chance against the world number 1 Simona Halep.

The Romanian was far stronger than the Belgian and she enjoyed a convincing two-set victory, winning 6-2, 6-1. Elise Mertens’ elimination means that there are no Belgians left competing in the 2018 French Open.
