With Germany and France having requested to cease negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) trade agreement with the US, the FGTB called on the Belgian government to take the same position.

What goes for France and Germany goes for Belgium as well,” stated the socialist union, pointing also to the commercial treaty negotiated with Canada, Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

“CETA is the twin brother of TTIP. It seeks the privatization, with few exceptions, of all public services and liberalization of trade without the necessary social basis guarantees regarding labour rights. CETA, like TTIP, threatens our rights, our jobs, our health, our planet, and our democracy,” stressed FGTB.

“On September 20th, FGTB will be stand by thousands of citizens to demand that Belgium not give its approval” for the signing of these treaties, added the union.
