Free buses in Brussels for Sunday’s climate march

The Brussels Interurban Transport Company (STIB) will offer its buses and trains free of charge on Sunday to encourage and facilitate the broadest participation possible in the “Claim the Climate” march in Brussels, the regional public transport company announced on Monday in a press release.

The STIB recalled that the Climate Coalition, linking more than 70 Belgian civil-society organisations, and the Climate Express citizens’ movement are organising the Claim the Climate march on Sunday 2 December. The demonstration is being held on the margin of the opening of the COP24 international climate conference in Katowice, Poland.

“The STIB, in agreement with its line minister Pascal Smet, will offer its network free of charge on 2 December,” the public transport company announced in its press release. “The subway gates will be disactivated” and commuters will not have to validate their cards in the vehicles, it added.

The march will depart from the Gare du Nord at midday to arrive at Cinquantenaire Park around 4.00 – 5.00 p.m. It will cause deviations on various public transport lines that usually follow its itinerary.
