Belgium mobile identification: mobile solution unveiled before end of 2016

Four banks and three mobile telephone operators signed an agreement on Monday with a view to finalising a Belgium mobile identification solution.

This was announced by Belgian Mobile Wallet, in charge of developing the application. The latter should be officially live before the end of the year.

The solution, which Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, CBC/KCB, ING, Orange, Proximus and Telenet are turning their attention to, will be entirely managed in Belgium.

The application will make it possible, in practical terms, “to simply and reliably connect to a website, confirm a bank transaction or even sign documents.” Kris De Ryck, CEO of Belgian Mobile Wallet stated this when promoting the solution.

“The agreement announced today conceals exceptional value,” says Jacques Godet, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Belgian Mobile Wallet. “It amalgamates seven high-level actors from both sectors. Banks provide client knowledge – a regulated process – whilst security is strengthened by the SIM card and operator networks. I am convinced that establishing this ‘Belgian Mobile ID’, this Belgian benchmark in mobile identification terms, will provide a positive contribution to the Belgian digital economy.”
