Flanders to assess sexual harassment in cultural and media sectors

The Flemish Minister for Culture and Media, Sven Gatz (Open Vld), will start an investigation to assess improper sexual behaviour, within the Dutch-speaking culture and media sectors.

The minister in the Flemish parliament indicated on Thursday that this initiative should enable a plan of action by Easter 2018.

This decision follows the scandal involving the presenter and producer, Bart De Pauw. This “Bekende Vlaming” (well-known Flemish individual) was thrust into this storm, after women testified against the prevention advisor to VRT regarding inappropriate behaviour on his part.

VRT has suspended its collaboration with him. Mr Gatz indicated, “Since this affair broke out, all kinds of testimonies of such behaviour in these sectors have emerged.”
