Seven people were injured in the center of Brussels.
Two of the three officers inside the vehicle had to be freed by emergency services. Images show how the entire roof of the car has been peeled back to allow the officers to exit.
The accident took place at the junction of the Rue de la Loi and Rue Royale, in front of the parliament and royal park. The exact cause of the accident is being investigated.
The accident involved the police car and a private vehicle with four occupants. All of those involved were taken to hospital, but none was reported to be in a serious condition. According to an unconfirmed report on the RTBF, the police were on their way to offer back-up to local colleagues at the Brussels Summer Festival.
Part of the two main streets was closed off to allow police to take measurements of the scene, but road traffic could still pass. Tramlines, however, were suspended between Botanique and Louise.
