The Romanian government has entered auto-isolation mode after a senator was confirmed positive with novel coronavirus, COVID-19.
In a news conference at the headquarters of the National Liberal Party (PNL), interim prime minister Ludovic Orban told journalists that the senator attended a recent meeting of the party leadership, so that all who attended the meeting, including all ministers, will self-isolate in their homes.
Orban was also in contact yesterday with the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis. Orban will, therefore, be self-isolated in a government protocol house.
Moreover, Orban told journalists to self-isolate and request coronavirus testing and government access is now restricted for journalists.
The Presidential Administration has so far not released a statement, but health professionals are now in the Parliament to test all members of the Executive Office of National Liberal Party, according to sources for Antena 3 Television from Romania.
All the ministers, including the Prime Minister and other members of the National Liberal Party, will be subject to testing.
A delegation of PNL was scheduled to go meet President Klaus Iohannis later Friday for consultations on forming a new government. President Iohannis just announced he will hold teleconferences with all parties.
On Thursday, Prime Minister-designate Florin Citu renounced his right to form the government just a few minutes before parliament was scheduled to vote on his cabinet.
With many MPs possibly going into self-isolation mode, the probability of installing a new government quickly is extremely low.
Romania has so far 70 confirmed cases of 2019-nCov infections.
