RSC Anderlecht on Wednesday refused a fine of 4,000 euros set by the prosecutor of the Belgian football union, URBSFA, for discriminatory chants by supporters at its match against Bruges (2-3) on the 4th of April, the dhnet.be website revealed.
URBSFA Spokesman Pierre Cornez confirmed the prosecutor’s request to Belga news agency.
The matter will now go before the Disputes Commission, where the club will be able to defend itself.
The prosecutor’s request came in reaction to the match official’s report, which mentioned discriminatory chants by Anderlecht supporters at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium on the 4th of April. They reportedly shouted, “Hij is een hoer van FCB” (“He is a whore of Bruges”) when referee Bram Van Driessche made a disputed decision in favour of the visitors and later chanted “Alle boeren zijn homo’s (“All farmers are homos”) as Anderlecht came back in the match.
Anderlecht was already in the prosecutor’s bad books for the events at last Friday’s match in Sclessin, which had to be stopped after half an hour because the club’s supporters lit firecrackers and threw them onto the pitch.
