BlaBlaCar offers 460.000 ridesharing places since April launch in Belgium

Since the launch of the BlaBlaCar service in Belgium in April 2016, drivers using the long-distance ridesharing platform have offered 460,000 slots in their vehicles, BlaBlaCar announced on Friday.

The service added that ride-sharing journeys in Belgium averaged 205 km.

BlaBlaCar enables drivers to offer people travelling in their direction to ride in their cars and share the transport costs. The drivers are paid through BlaBlaCar.

Brussels is the city with the largest volumes, averaging close to 1,500 possible departure points per month and over 1,100 available return-journey slots on Fridays, it said.

According to BlaBlaCar, some 43% of its Belgian members are over 30 years of age. The average age is 33 years, 35% are between 18 and 25 years, 32% are in the 25- to 35-year bracket, and 34% are over 35.
