Women Of Stell has invited the ICRC to join forces to strengthen the organization in fulfilling its mission regarding prisoners of war

On August 31, a meeting of families of Ukrainian defenders with General Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Robert Mardini took place in Kyiv.

Natalia Zarytska, head of the NGO “WOMEN OF STEEL”, which unites relatives of prisoners of war, missing soldiers and those who died defending the sovereignty of Ukraine, raised a key question at the meeting: what can we, as relatives of prisoners of war, do to strengthen the ICRC, and how to help this organization have the opportunity to fully fulfill its mission.

She emphasized that the world cannot stand without actions by watching the catastrophic situation with Ukrainian prisoners of war and must stop this medieval horror.

During the meeting, they discussed the urgent need to organize a humanitarian convoy, as well as the issue of access to all prisoners of war, according to the Geneva Convention.

“WOMEN OF STEEL” emphasized that the state of Ukraine fully complies with the norms of international humanitarian law – Russian prisoners of war are provided with everything they need, have appropriate accommodation and full nutrition, unlike Ukrainian prisoners held by the Russian Federation.

Robert Mardini noted that the organization works in the modalities of privacy, confidentiality and non-disclosure of information.

At the same time, he assured that the staff of the organization is currently being expanded, they will more carefully monitor the conditions of Ukrainian prisoners of war as soon as the Russian Federation provides access to them.

The purpose of Robert Mardini’s visit to Ukraine was to summarize the results of the organization’s humanitarian activities. He leaves with his mission to Moscow.
