Belgian chocolate makers top 1.1 billion euros in bulk sales in 2015

Belgium’s flagship chocolate industry sold 385 million kg of bulk chocolate, valued at 1.14 billion euros, in 2015, the Belgian Statistical Office, Statbel, disclosed on Thursday.

This represented an increase of 55.88% in terms of value between 2010 and 2015, Statbel reported.

Belgian chocolate manufacturers also sold 169 million kg of chocolate in the form of bars, sweets and pralines, valued at 893 million euros –16.89% less than in 2010 – and 68 million kg of biscuits, valued at 197 million euros (- 2.6%)

The volume of sales increased between 2010 and 2015 for bulk chocolate (up 38.34%) and biscuits (+ 3.97%), but decreased – by 18.69% – for chocolate bars and sweets.
