Between 20 and 25 pâtissiers and artisans were in Verviers working together from 10am on Sunday morning.
They were decorating the biggest chocolate eclair ever made. Their three hour task was to set a new world record of 676m. Although it was certified, it will not go into the Guinness Book of Records because of administrative errors.
Maître-chocolatier Jean-Philippe Darcis was behind this attempt, and said he was very happy with the team’s work. This record attempt used 750kg of ingredients, including 70kg of butter, 2,000 eggs, 50kg of flour, and 300 litres of milk. These ingredients would have cost 1,500 euros, but were donated by sponsors.
This participation will increase the amount given to the association chosen by this charity fund-raising event. The money will be generated by selling 6,000 slices of the éclair.
Mr Darcis hopes to do it again in two years at the next chocolaterie meeting. This Sunday’s event in Verviers was attended by 3,000 to 3,500 people. Next time they will try to make a kilometre long éclair. The necessary administration will be done to get it into the Guinness Book of Records.
The official world record belongs to a Swiss baker who made a 503m long éclair.
