Red Flames achieve highest ever FIFA ranking

Belgium’s national women’s football team the Red Flames have achieved their highest ever FIFA ranking. Our women are 20th in the new FIFA rankings that were published on Friday morning. Never since football’s world governing FIFA launched its ranking system for national women’s teams in 2003 have the Red Flames been ranked higher.

In the last set of rankings that date from December last year the Red Flames were 21st. Now the share 20th place with Scotland’s national women’s team. Both Scotland and Belgium have 1,812 points. Top in the ranking is the USA (2,101 points), followed by Germany (2,072 points) in second place. England is 3rd with 2,049 points), ahead of France (2,043 points) and Canada (2,006 points).

A few weeks ago the Red Flames took bronze in the Cyprus Cup. In a few days our women’s team will leave for America where they will take on the reigning World Champion the USA in a friendly on Monday 8 April.
