Aldi to invest 350 million in renewal of its Belgian stores

Aldi is modernising its 450 stores in Belgium over the coming year and a half.
Not only will the discounter increase convenience for the customer, but it will also focuse on fresh products and a more enjoyable shopping experience. An extensive bread department, more fresh produce, a new store layout, broader corridors, new furniture and bright LED lighting are among some of the new features of the refurbished Aldi. The new Aldi store in Diegem, just outside Brussels, is the first model of Aldi’s latest store concept.

“After a wide range of test stores, Aldi Belgium is ready to show its new store concept to the customer,” says Wim Voet, Managing Director Operations at Aldi Holding. “And they will be pleasantly surprised.”

Aldi Belgium is part of the German Aldi Nord group, one of the leading retailers in the world. Aldi Nord is also renewing its retail network elsewhere in Europe. The group plans to invest 5 billion euro in this renewal programme.

Together with Colruyt, Aldi is the most profitable Belgian supermarket. 95% of Aldi’s turnover consists of sales of its own brands.
