EuroBasket: Belgium gets off the mark with win over Britain

The Belgian Lions got off to a perfect start at EuroBasket in Istanbul, beating Britain on Friday by 103-90.

Eddy Casteel’s men had trailed 24-26 in the first quarter, but a more effective offence in the second quarter enabled them to return to the dressing rooms with a one-point advantage (54-53).

After half-time, the Lions gradually dominated their British opponents, thanks mainly to an in-form Maxime De Zeeuw, best scorer on the Belgian side with 21 points and seven rebounds.

The game ended on a final score of 103-90. Other than De Zeeuw, Sam Van Rosson scored 19 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists; Pierre-Antoine Gillet chipped in with 17 points and five rebounds, while Jonathan Tabu tallied 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

Belgium’s next game in Group D will be against Latvia, on the 2nd of September, followed by Russia on the 4th, Turkey on the 5th and Serbia on the 6thof September. The first four teams in each group move on the Final 16.
