Nicky Degrendele takes silver in keirin

Nicky Degrendele just lost the gold in keirin to the European Cycling Champions in Glasgow. However, instead she took a silver medal. The race was won by Mathilde Gros from France.

Degrendele had put her best foot forward in the first and second rounds, winning both races and going into the final as favourite.

In the final she was allotted number 4, which meant that she remained the 4th rider behind the pacemaker for some time.

As soon as the pacemaker left the circuit, Nicky Degrendele shot forward like an arrow. The Belgian provided plenty of excitement, but was unable to pull ahead the eventual race winner Mathilde Gros. The French rider showed her determination and retained the lead until the finish.
