Brussels gets second batch of electric scooters

The American company Bird on Tuesday placed 100 folding electric scooters in different parts of Brussels, becoming the second company to do so, after Troty in late June.

The scooters will be available free of charge between 07.00 a.m. and 09.00 p.m. They will be placed each morning at strategic locations such as train and subway stations. Users, who will have to be at least 18 years old, will be able to unlock the vehicles using an application they can download to their smart phones. They are asked to leave the scooters where they are not in anyone’s way, when they finish using them.

The scooters can run for 20km at each charge, so they can be used throughout the Brussels Region. They will be collected every night to be recharged so as to be ready for use on the following day.

Bird’s headquarters is in the United States. It is also present in Paris, since last month, and intends to make its system available in other European cities.
