Steven Vanackere to become director of Nationale Bank

The Belgian government has put the name of Steven Vanackere forward for the post of director of Nationale Bank, Belgium’s central bank. The bank’s council is expected to formalise the appointment today. Flemish Christian democrat politician Steven Vanackere succeeds Marcia De Wachter, who leaves the bank after a career spanning thirty years. She was recently elected as a local councillor in Overijse (Flemish Brabant). Mr Vanackere served as finance minister and deputy PM under PM Elio Di Rupo. Spain gets most EU funding to innovative companies

The European Commission announced this week the results of the latest round for funding to innovative small and medium-sized companies in member states and associated countries. A total of 246 companies from 24 countries were selected for funding from the SME instrument, a funding mechanism under the EU’s research and innovation programme Horizon 2020.
