“Avoid a trip to Brussels, if possible!”

NATO is holding a two-day summit, and if you live in the Belgian and Flemish capital, then you have certainly noticed some preparatory activities. It is expected that the presence of so many high-level delegations, including President trump, will cause a traffic violation, as there are special security measures.

Watch out where you park your car because several security zones have been set out and here there is a parking ban. All vehicles including mopeds and motorbikes will be towed away. Affected are the surroundings of NATO HQ in the Brussels suburb of Evere. The Leopold III-laan is closed between the ring and Bordet. Roads around the US embassy and the royal palace of Brussels have been cleared as have roads in the vicinity of the Jubel Park. The European District won’t escape disruption either with temporary road closures planned.

With a lot of to-ing and fro-ing the outer Brussels orbital ring road, the end of the E19 motorway, the E40 between the ring road and Reyers, the Wetstraat, the Belliardstraat, the Waterloolaan, the Gulden Vlieslaan and the inner Brussels orbital ring road will all be closed at times.

Use public transport and expect disruption on buses of De Lijn and the MIVB and on trams. The metro is operating normally, but some metro station entrances will be closed.

The police are urging people to avoid Brussels if at all possible and to use public transport.
