In Sunday evening’s Belgian First Division games AA Gent beat Sporting Anderlecht by a single goal, while later in the evening Excel Mouscron enjoyed a 2-1 home win against KV Oostende.
Sporting Anderlecht’s new coach Fred Rutten saw his team lose their first competitive game since he took charge.
The 34-times champions remain joined fifth in the league alongside the team that beat them on Sunday evening AA Gent. The only goal of the game came from the Buffaloes new signing Alexander Sorloth on 75 minutes.
Anderlecht played the latter part of the second half with ten men after Francis Amuzu was sent off on 74 minutes. The result leaves AA Gent and Sporting Anderlecht level on points and matches won. They both have 34 points from 22 matches and are fifth in the league.
Excel Mouscron pull away from drop spot
With 8 matches left Excel Mouscron are now 6 points ahead of the relegation zone thanks to a 2-1 home win against KV Oostende.
The visitors had taken the lead on 9 minutes through Tom De Sutter. However Manuel Benson equalised 4 minutes later.
The score remained level until Taiwo Awoyini scored Excel Mouscron’s winning goal on 68 minutes. The result leaves Excel Mouscron in 14th place with 20 points from 22 games. KV Oostende are 12 with 23 points.
